On Tuesday January 8, 2019 at approximately 2pm, Alan was returning from Loblaw to his apartment on Lakeshore road near Mississauga road, Alan stopped at the intersection light, heading east on Lakeshore at Mississauga road. The light changed in his favor and displayed the “walking man” symbol, wherein Alan proceeded to cross Mississauga road with a clear right of way, and with his groceries placed in his wheelchair that he had just bought.

As he proceeded into the intersection, a car turning left onto Mississauga road, made a left turn colliding right into Alan as he had passed the middle of the intersection. The 19 year old female driver struck Alan’s wheelchair on his right side, and instead of coming to a stop, CONTINUED DRIVING AND ACCELERATING up Mississauga road. Incredibly, Alan’s weight and the weight of the wheelchair was over 600 pounds, and Alan was ploughed up Mississauga road, while the car’s bumper was pushing Alan’s right side of his wheelchair and gaining speed as the driver was speeding up Mississauga road.

After Alan had been ploughed approximately 150 feet north on Mississauga road, the 19 year old female driver who did not have a drivers license, suddenly realized she was plowing a handicapped person in a wheelchair on the front of her bumper and slammed on the brakes. The result was the car screeched to a halt, and Alan was ejected from his wheelchair and went flying out of the chair 10 feet in the air, and landing face down on the pavement in front of the stopped car and his wheelchair with all his groceries.

With an absolutely horrifying accident, the 19 year old driver DID NOT STOP AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT !!!

She actually reversed her car, and then maneuvered to the right of Alan so that she could resume heading north on Mississauga road, passing Alan on the right side of his body. She backed her car up and drove around him on his right side, with the car wheels passing just inches away from him as he lay face down on the ground – and then fled the scene of the accident !

It was only after other drivers who drove after her and flagged her down, that she was forced to return to the scene of the accident. With Peel Regional Police on the scene along with the Mississauga Fire Department and Emergency Paramedics, Alan and his wheelchair were rushed to Trillium Hospital Emergency.

The 19 year old female driver who was driving without a driver’s license and had borrowed her boyfriend’s car, was detained by police and gave her particulars to police which is now the subject of court actions and legal proceedings.

Legal actions are pending against the driver and owner of the vehicle and Intact – Jevco Insurance has acknowledged liability for insurance reclamation. The legal processes to make Alan Russell whole are underway and expected to conclude in 2021 against all responsible parties. However to date, Alan Russell has received NO MONIES whatsoever from any of the liable parties including the driver and the owner of the car.

Now almost 2 years since the date of the accident, Alan has never recovered the use of his legs and has not walked since …exactly from the date of the accident on Tuesday, January 8, 2019.

He remains paralyzed and confined to his hospital bed, with an occasional trip in his wheelchair when he can be lifted out of his bed and positioned in his wheelchair.

Legal actions and lawsuits are being prepared for 2021 in order to seek redress and restitution for Alan Russell, and which is why Alan needs your help!
